Privacy notice
What we do with your information
Written to be read rather than to be survived. It describes exactly what our systems do, because it was written from them.
Last updated 2026-09-23. This notice is given under section 18 of the Protection of Personal Information Act.
Who is responsible for your information
Two different businesses hold your details, and it matters which is which.
Dentz, operated by [registered company name] runs this website. When you send a quote request, we are the responsible party for it — up until a repairer accepts the job.
The repair business that accepts your job becomes the responsible party for your details from that moment. They decide how long to keep your record, they send you the quote and invoice, and their name is on the emails. We run the software for them, which makes us their operator under sections 20 and 21 of POPIA. If you want a repairer to delete your details, ask them; if they need our help to do it, we do it.
Our Information Officer is [Information Officer name and email].
What we collect, and why
Only what a repairer needs to price your job and phone you back. There is no account to create and no password.
- Your name and WhatsApp number — So the repairer who takes the job can call you back about the repair.
- Your email address (optional) — To send your tracking link and, later, the written quote itself.
- Photographs of the damage (optional) — A repairer cannot price a dent they cannot see.
- What kind of damage it is — Hail, a ding, a crease or not sure — so a repairer can price it before they phone.
- Where the car is — Your device's location if you allow it, otherwise a city you pick. Used only to find repairers whose service area covers you, and never stored more precisely than that.
We do not use advertising trackers, we do not build a profile of you, and we never sell your details to anybody.
Who sees it
When you send a request, the damage, the panel and how far away the car is go to up to five repair businesses whose service area covers you.
Those five do not get your name or your number. They see the job and the distance. The first one to accept it receives your contact details; the others are closed out at that moment and never see them at all. That is the point of sending it to five — you get one call quickly rather than five calls over a week.
Your tracking link is the whole of your account
When you send a request we give you a link and email it to you. Anyone holding that link can see the status of your request, the photos you sent, and who took the job.
We store only a one-way hash of that link, not the link itself, so we could not reconstruct it even if we were asked to. Treat it the way you would treat a parcel tracking number: it is not secret enough to forward to strangers, and there is nothing in it worth stealing. Search engines are blocked from those pages.
Where it is kept, and the part we have to tell you
Our database and your photographs are hosted by Convex in the United States. Section 72 of POPIA requires us to say so plainly: your personal information leaves South Africa, and it is stored in a country whose privacy law is not the same as ours. Our contract with Convex requires them to protect it to a standard comparable to POPIA, and they process it only on our instructions.
Everyone we pass information to, and what for:
How long we keep it
A request that no repairer ever accepts stays with us while it could still be useful to you, and we delete it on request at any time.
Once a repairer accepts your job, how long your record lives is their decision, not ours — but they cannot keep it forever either. If they invoice you, South African tax law requires them to keep that invoice for five years, and neither they nor we can delete it before then. That obligation sits above your right to erasure, and it is the one thing on this page we cannot promise to undo.
What you can ask us to do
POPIA gives you the right to:
- See what we hold. Ask and we will send it to you.
- Correct it if it is wrong.
- Have it deleted. Where a repairer has already invoiced you, that invoice stays for the five years SARS requires, but everything identifying you is stripped out of it and out of everything else.
- Object to marketing, at any time. Every message we send on a repairer's behalf carries an unsubscribe link that works immediately and without a conversation.
- Complain to the Information Regulator if we handle this badly — inforegulator.org.za. You do not have to come to us first, though we would rather you did.
You do not have to ask us for the first one. While your request is still waiting for a repairer, your tracking page carries a button that deletes it — your photographs, your description and your contact details — on the spot and without speaking to anybody. Once a repairer has accepted the job they hold your record, so ask them; every business on this platform has a one-click export and erase on your file, so it is not a favour they have to work out how to do.
For anything else, email hello@dentz.co.za.
Children
This service is for people arranging repairs to their own vehicle, so we do not knowingly collect anything from under-18s. If a child has sent us something, tell us and we will remove it.
Changes
If we change what we do with your information in a way that matters, we will change the date at the top and, where the change is significant, tell the people it affects rather than relying on you re-reading this page.
Our terms of use cover the rest of the relationship.
